It’s a wonder why Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis haven’t been snapped up yet – they clearly have an eye for timeless style. Although their bold, modern tastes should be celebrated in Los Angeles (and beyond), the beauty of this home sits on a glorious hilltop site perched above the storied Los Angeles enclave.
The high-powered Hollywood transplants dug a well on the property to irrigate the land, planted (and harvested) a field of corn during COVID lockdown, and dubbed it “KuKu Farms.” They were inspired by KuKuCK Farm, located in Iowa, where Kutcher was born and raised. And because he loves his straw fedoras so much, a hat rack is a nod to his signature style.

The home itself was built using recycled and reclaimed materials and locally milled redwood for the wide-plank floors. And from the looks of it, it’s been lovingly preserved. It becomes apparent that Kutcher and Kunis expended just as much energy into this abode as they have their successful careers – and that means a lot.
The couple enlisted the help of architect Stephen Alesch (who designed Uma Thurman and Arpad Busson’s London townhouse) and New York decorator Katie Ridder (a veteran on both coasts). But before we get too deep with design speak, let’s back up: How did two urbanites land on the idea of living in LA farmland?
Kutcher, who grew up in nearby Cedar Rapids, Iowa – known for its surrounding cornfields – says he has always wanted to live in a farmhouse. And Kunis supposedly had an equally strong desire for this sort of rustic retreat. Upon purchasing the property in 2012 (for $1.3 million), they built out the existing structure and put their own touches on it.
As if building a sustainable home wasn’t enough, Kutcher also planted three wind turbines with solar panels attached to them because his goal was to make the house completely off-the-grid. Although it still may not be that far yet, Kutcher did say that the home uses about 70 percent less electricity than a regular house.
The couple also has an extremely green mentality when it comes to entertaining – which means there will be no disposable plates or utensils at their soirees.
When they’re not hosting sold-out brunches at their own kitchen table, the pair loves to spread out in their quaint living room with extra seating by Danish designer Hay. They can easily entertain over drinks at the bar cart by the wet bar (not that we would know anything about that).
And if Kutcher and Kunis ever tire of Hollywood events, they have plenty of entertainment options at home: They built a movie theater with two reclining chairs and sofa upholstered in buttery yellow leather from French company Roche Bobois.
And because you can never have too much storage, there’s a wall of built-ins that no doubt has plenty of room for their books and shoes – and hopefully a few Iowa State University bobbleheads.
